Don’t be a drip – get a gas boiler emergency repair before it’s too late

You could need a gas boiler emergency repair for all sorts of reasons, each with their own levels of urgency.

Most people will be aware of when to get an engineer in straight away, such as when they detect that a boiler is leaking carbon monoxide – Britain’s silent killer – but there are many situations can seem less pressing and therefore be left to fester and get worse over time.

With the effects of the economic downturn still being felt by families up and down the country, the need to save money has never been more urgent. However, cutting back on spending on your boiler could be a much more costly mistake in the long-run.

One issue that some people could ignore initially is a leaking boiler. What starts as a drip can soon turn into something far more serious – and it’s essential that an engineer is called out as soon as possible.

Although leaks are a common problem, they’re also usually an indication of a more serious fault – and failing to get this sorted could have disastrous consequences. A leak left for a period of time can cause the corrosion of the boiler’s internal parts, which can then lead to minor flooding.

A Gas Safe-registered technician will usually be able to quickly identify the source of the problem – which can range from a broken seal on the circulation pump to a crack in the cast iron or aluminum sections – and sort it.

If you notice a leak, the first step is to attempt to find its source and shut it off. If you’re unsure of where it is, turn off your water supply and get straight on the phone to an engineer to keep the damage to an absolute minimum. Of course, it’s important to never attempt to carry out work on your own boiler – the Gas Safe Register exists for a reason, which is to make sure that only fully qualified people work with gas.

Ignoring this important point could not only cost you more money in the long-run, but also have more serious consequences – faulty or damaged boilers can leak carbon monoxide, which is a silent killer.

If saving money while keeping your family safe is your aim, then getting boiler insurance may be your best bet. With this type of cover in place, you can be sure that whenever you need a boiler repair, you’ll be able to call on a fully qualified technician with no nasty bill to worry about at the end of the work – what could be simpler?
